Deutsche Messe’s Shanghai industrial quartet closes on high note

 -  PTC ASIA, CeMAT ASIA, ComVac ASIA and Industrial Supply ASIA spotlight China’s current manufacturing and logistics landscape

Hannover/Shanghai. PTC ASIA, CeMAT ASIA, ComVac ASIA and Industrial Supply ASIA made it crystal clear during their 27–30 October 2014 engagement at the Shanghai International Exhibition Centre: China remains a manufacturing powerhouse. With more than 1,900 exhibiting companies presenting the latest equipment, machinery, components and technologies, the recently concluded fairs covered 135,500 square meters of display area and attracted 73,000 visitors.

“Success in modern manufacturing means producing high-quality products at the lowest possible prices,” said Wolfgang Pech, senior vice president at Deutsche Messe AG, “which is why our lead theme this year is ‘Smart Manufacturing and Energy Efficiency’. In China – where economic growth is slowing, wages are increasing, and consumers’ demands are becoming ever more sophisticated – manufacturers must increase productivity, reduce costs and streamline supply chains. PTC ASIA, CeMAT ASIA, ComVac ASIA, and Industrial Supply ASIA provide companies from throughout Asia with a one-stop shop for the products and solutions they need to remain competitive.”

PTC ASIA, Asia’s leading event for power transmission and control and fluid power, covered 80,500 square meters of display area and featured 1,208 exhibitors, including such industry leaders as ABB, Argo Hytos, Balluff, Bonfiglioli, Lenze, NORD, Siemens, and SKF. China, Germany, India, Italy, France, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan Turkey, the UK, and the USA sponsored country pavilions. KASTAS from Turkey introduced new sealing solutions that increase performance and improve reliability in cylinders used in challenging steel mill applications. Germany’s Lenze used PTC for the official launch in China of its g500 gearbox which, in combination with the Lenze Smart Motor, fuses the simplicity of an AC motor with the benefits of an electronic drive control to reduce operating costs and energy usage in materials handling equipment. PTC ASIA also featured forums and conferences about trends and innovations in power transmission and compressed air.

CeMAT ASIA, the continent’s leading event for materials handling and logistics, showcased 490 companies on 40,000 square meters. Jungheinrich from Germany displayed advanced forklift trucks and complete warehouse applications. Switzerland’s Swisslog introduced AutoStore, an automated small parts storage system that uses robots to quickly process small parts orders and single-item picking, and CarryPick, a goods-to-person solution that uses automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to transport mobile shelves from storage areas to picking workstations. Other global players at the fair included BYD, Crown, Goodsense, Heli, Ruyi, and viastore. Special events included “Logistics Robots”, a first-time display of industrial robot solutions for materials handling, and the CeMAT ASIA Innovation Salon, which featured a mix of keynote speeches, innovation shows and roundtable meetings on topics such as global logistics, food supply chain and safety, and e-commerce.

In its second year as a stand-alone event, ComVac ASIA covered 13,500 square meters and featured 170 exhibitors presenting compressed air and vacuum technologies. Well-known exhibiting companies included Bauer Kompressoren, Bosch Rexroth, HITACHI, Ingersoll Rand, Kaishan, and Sotras. ComVac ASIA also hosted the annual Chinese Compressor Industry Summit, which was organized by compressor.cn

Industrial Supply ASIA, which covers industrial supply and lightweight materials, hosted 45 exhibitors on 1,500 square meters. MIM-Indo from India demonstrated its Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology, which mixes metal powders with polymer binders to make small, complex, tight-tolerance, high-performance metal parts with mechanical properties similar to wrought steel, but more quickly and at lower cost. Sourcing events, expert and discussion forums and buyer delegations rounded out the program.
